Gamma

Gamma is the curve that maps input signal to output brightness. The sRGB standard uses gamma 2.2. A gamma that is too low (1.8) makes the image look washed out and bright; a gamma that is too high (2.6) makes the image look dark and crushed. Most monitors default to gamma 2.2 but may drift over time. Calibration with a colorimeter ensures accurate gamma. The gamma calibration test helps you verify and adjust this setting.
