Local Dimming

Local dimming is a backlight technology on Mini LED and FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) monitors that dims the backlight behind dark areas of the image, dramatically improving effective contrast. More dimming zones means better contrast and less blooming (halo of light around bright objects on dark backgrounds). Edge-lit LCDs have no local dimming. Mini LED monitors have hundreds to thousands of zones. OLED panels don't need local dimming (per-pixel light).
